Bee balm (Monarda fistulosa)

from $35.00

This listing is for a real pressed plant and botanical specimen. Inspired by herbarium specimens, it is an artistic presentation of Bee balm (Monarda fistulosa) which I grew and collected from my garden in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Monarda also grows wild in large patches favoring sunny spots at the edges of forests in the mountains of the Southwest. Also known as Wild Bergamot, the tubular nectar-rich pale to bright pinkish-lavender flowers are magnets for bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. I’ve even seen bees tucked into the petals for a good night’s sleep. The blooms of garden hybrids of this plant can be red. Monarda fistulosa is an aromatic plant with the fragrance of oregano. These botanical sheets retain Monarda’s scent for months after they’ve been dried and mounted.

The plant is mounted on acid-free, high-quality (320 gsm), watercolor paper handmade in India. A collection label is also included with the specimen scientific name, common name, family name, location and date collected. The placement of the collection label varies on each piece, depending on best artistic spacing. Each flower is different, so each botanical sheet is different. The mounted wildflower you receive may look different from the one pictured in this listing.

Sizes available:

A5 size (6×8.5”) - $35

A4 size (8.25×11.75”) - $45

This is an unframed piece ready for you to frame yourself. For a more casual look instead of framing these, I suggest hanging multiple specimens from artistic clothespins on a wire or on clipboards. Read this blog for more ideas to adorn your home with Eufloria’s botanicals.

The plant has been pressed for a minimum of 6 weeks in accordance with professional herbarium standards to maximize the quality and longevity of its color. Please note that, as with all dried plants, these are susceptible to fading or changing color over time. The speed and degree varies from plant to plant, but all will eventually take on a nice vintage look. Hang them out of direct sunlight to extend their color.

The plants were collected responsibly, sustainably, and honoring nature in the process. See this blog post for more information on my ethics on wildflower collection.
